Growing Older: Sensory Changes
ثبت نشده
چکیده
The efficiency of the sensory organs vision, hearing, taste, smell, and touch declines with age, but the age of onset and the rate of decline differ markedly among people. A sensory change can affect an older person in a number of ways. Changes can be made in the environment to ease a person's adjustment. This publication is addressed to those who care for the elderlyto explain the sensory changes older people encounter and to suggest what you can do to help.

Comparing Age-Ralated Changes of Balance Performance In Youth and Older Adults
Objectives: The purpose of current study was to compare the effect of aging on balance in different sensory conditions. Methods & Materials: In this cross sectional study we compared 20 healthy youth (with age 22.75±2.29) and 20 healthy older adults (with age 65.1±4.16) in single leg standing in different sensory conditions. Sensory conditions were open eye/ hard surface (OEHS), closed eye/ ...
متن کاملAge-related differences in auditory evoked responses during rapid perceptual learning.
OBJECTIVE Young and older adults can learn to rapidly discriminate between elementary visual and auditory features. While growing evidence supports the notion that such behavioral improvement is paralleled by neuroplastic changes in corresponding sensory areas during adulthood, studies have not examined practice-related improvement in older adults and the corresponding changes in neural activit...

متن کاملAging of the somatosensory system: a translational perspective.
Balance in the elderly population is a major concern given the often catastrophic and disabling consequences of fall-related injuries. Structural and functional declines of the somatosensory system occur with aging and potentially contribute to postural instability in older adults. The objectives of this article are: (1) to discuss the evidence regarding age-related anatomical and physiological...
